    ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM

21st Annual Salisbury Confederate Prison Symposium

April 13-15, 2018

 

     The Robert F. Hoke Chapter 78 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be hosting its Annual Salisbury Confederate Prison Symposium April 13-15, 2018. 

Spend a weekend exploring the 1861-1865 history of the only Confederate States Military Prison in North Carolina during the War Between the States.

The event begins on Friday, April 13, at 4 PM with 3 lectures and Friendship Banquet, plus music and recognition of veterans. 

Scheduled for Saturday, April 14, are 4 lectures, light lunch, displays, books, and door prizes. 

Scheduled for Sunday, April 15, are 2 public Memorial Services, a 10:00 am Memorial Service for prisoners at the Salisbury National Cemetery

and an 11:00 am Service for guards at the Old Lutheran Cemetery. 

There will be an afternoon tour of the Prison site for registrants.

The scheduled speakers and subjects include: 
*  Author and History Professor Dr. Gary Freeze of NC – Introduction to the Prison 
*   Historian Dr. Benjamin Garrett of VA – NC Prison guard Augustus Wooten 
*  Historian and Descendant Shelley Gayler-Smith of TX – New York POW Adolphus Guyette 
*   Descendants John and Dr. Mike McCully of NC – Wisconsin POW Osgood Dwinnel 
*  Author Rebecca Morris of MD – Camp Parole, MD 
*  Retired History Professor Dr. William Partin of NC – NC Prison Guard Brodie Duke 
*  Historian William Searfoss of NY – POWs from Chenango Co., New York

Registration for the Symposium is $65 per person when postmarked by March 23, 2018, $75 afterwards.

$15 charge for refunds after March 30. No refunds after April 6.
